Manuel Noriega Bought Me a Sandwich
The purpose of this blog is mostly for being serious, but I have a silly and serendiptous side to me too…
My current diet consists of the healthiest foods I can find since my job mostly is sitting down, though I try to run whenever I can to appointments. It helps my blood flow if I can get up from my desk and run to and from various locations.
So today it was the usual, Subway sandwich…foot long…savory turkey breast; except I only had to pay for half of it. The particular store that I frequent for lunch has a running contest where they pull a question out of Trivial Pursuit, 90′s edition and read it. The first customer to blurt out the correct answer gets a free 6″ sandwich. The question was:
“Who took refuge in the nunciature of the Vatican embassy in Panama when US troops invaded the country in pursuit of him?”
I remembered this from the early 90′s when I was still in high school, so I used my trivial education and got it right by answering “Manuel Noriega.”
So while I was enjoying the fruits of my labor I had to take a brief moment of reflection and thank General Noriega for helping to pay for my lunch. A silly, yet very serendipitous occasion:
Thanks for making history, Manuel and thanks for buying me a sandwich with your fame. I would have gladly paid for it myself, but you made my day today.
